Lichen Sclerosus
Lichen sclerosus (LS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that usually affects the genital and anal areas, although it can sometimes occur on other parts of the body. This skin condition mainly affects women, typically between the ages of 45 and 60. However, LS can also occur in men and children before puberty. Lichen sclerosus is chronic and cannot be cured.
Hormone Cream and Swaens
The condition can be managed and symptoms alleviated through treatments such as applying an emollient cream, using corticosteroid cream, light therapy, or systemic tablets. However, emollient creams can cause staining in underwear, which often forces women to use panty liners. Unfortunately, panty liners are often not breathable, which can exacerbate the symptoms.
Special Gusset that Absorbs the Cream
All Swaens models have a special gusset that ensures the cream is absorbed and does not seep into the underwear. It’s no wonder that the Lichen Sclerosus Foundation recommends Swaens! Members of the foundation receive a discount code they can use with their order.
Why is Swaens Bamboo Underwear Suitable?
LS or other conditions affecting the vulvar area can make the skin sensitive and irritated, especially in the genital area. Here’s why bamboo underwear can be suitable:
Silky Smooth Texture: Bamboo fibers are naturally smooth and silky, providing minimal friction and irritation on sensitive skin.
Breathable and Hypoallergenic: Bamboo fibers are highly breathable and help regulate body temperature, which can reduce discomfort and excessive sweating often experienced with lichen sclerosus. Bamboo is also hypoallergenic and less likely to cause allergic reactions.
Moisture Absorption: Bamboo has excellent moisture absorption, which helps keep the area dry—essential for preventing further irritation with lichen sclerosus.
Natural Antibacterial Properties: Bamboo has natural antibacterial properties, making it less susceptible to bacterial growth that can cause irritation.
Sustainable
The underwear can be easily washed in the washing machine, making it sustainable. They last just as long as any other underwear.
